COUNTRY ROADS TAKE ME HOME TO THE PLACE I BELONG

I've been a Southern Gospel Radio Announcer for over 32 years. I've spun some of the finest music that will outlive all of us. I have played one award-winning songwriter's music consistently. Her name- Kyla Rowland. She is a lyricist that reaches thousands of people through her number one songs: One Scarred Hand, I Rest My Case At The Cross, Safe Thus Far, God Handled It All, The Past Is a Promise, If You Knew Him, He Will Row You Over the Tide and many others. Kyla has garnered many award nominations- Songwriter Fan Awards, Composition Awards, Who's Who In America, and multiple other honors in this genre. She is also an accomplished author and keynote speaker, and just a beautiful classy, Spirit-filled southern lady.
I was invited to be the keynote speaker and sing at a particular denominational statewide ladies meeting in the Spring of the Year in West Virginia. I was told by the coordinator of the Spring event, that in the Fall, they would be having Kyla Rowland as their keynote speaker!
I thought to myself, “ I wish I were speaking in THAT meeting!”  Be careful what you wish for.  Well, guess what?
That Fall, through a series of events, I was included to be the co-keynote speaker with Kyla Rowland!
I NEVER get nervous or jitters before I speak or sing, but this was an exception! I was up all the night before in the hotel room tossing and turning; I had dysentery and was so sick. Porcelain Patty was my new best friend. On top of all that, my traveling buddy couldn't make the trip with me because of work, so I lost my equilibrium in several ways!
I managed to struggle through that meeting, but I tell you, I will never forget it! I went through what felt like the ultimate spiritual ringer washing machine!
But I did learn from that experience Kyla Rowland was a woman just like me. Even though I had admired her for decades and had put her on a pedestal, she was still flesh. We are all just flesh in the hands of a Big God. I don't know why I always have to be a slow learner of the the hard way, but one thing's for sure, you don't soon forget those lessons at the Lord's academy!
